That's just plain scary. And stupid. Is there any mobile phone provider in operation these days that isn't utterly corrupt/incompetent?

Good advice! I was getting AT LEAST 20 pre-approved CC apps a WEEK. I submitted the paperwork online and via snail mail about a month ago.During the past month I've received just one!

@ jay314"And I'd like to see you find out a name and address from a phone book, knowing only a phone number. Hope you have a good eye for numbers."You so silly! Just google the phone number, area code first. You don't need to look in any phone books, they've all been scaned into google. it will give your name and address. I'll prove it....give me your girlfriend's phone number, and I can get her name and address! pretty creepy, but true! And now, thanks to springt, the same is tre for cell phone numbers.their office where I can call and report the security problem ( since I have a sprint cell phone) won't open for another 2 1/2 hours, but I don't know if I will be up....9NYC) ....I will try them later in the day...tha bastards!so if there are any lawyers on digg, who want to start a class action lawsuit, count me in...and let me know by commenting here, beefore I call sprint and alert them to the problem (see my other comen..t,about my own call to that number. below)

@XStatic: In case you missed all the comments above, cell phones can't be found in such searches, and many people don't list their home phone's in the whitepages (which means not in Google, either) thereby preventing anyone from finding them. My home phone can't be found in Google, but now anyone w/ my cell # can find out where I live.

Why can't I spend $20 to find someone to get this information on you?Unlike a phone book or google, I haven't heard of this 877 number until some anonymous person posted it in a very visible place. Now that it's publicized, it's more dangerous than if it were still obscure. Now that you know about it, ask to have your information removed. As for people who you call with your cell phone having your caller ID, I'd suppose you could ask your provider how to block caller id. http://www.timeatlas.com/mos/Cell_Phones/General/Blocking_Cell_Phone_Caller_ID/Now, if you are able to do something like that, and you choose to whom you give your cell #, again, I ask: what's the big deal?

Digg effect - Number disconnected...

Cell phone have been so called "anonymous" from search engine, no backwards searching. This just breaks down the door. What if someone finds your phone and manages to get your number(which most people store in the phone anyway) I know I don't want some creep coming to my door, knowing all he did was dial a number given by my OWN SERVICE PROVIDER!!!

I don't want to go through all those steps every time some company decides to give out my personal info. Plus, even if I ask to have it removed, it could already be out there - in the hands of bad (or annoying) people.
