z14.invisionfree.com— Yesterday, around 4:00pm, I received a phone call telling me that Richard (Dampe) has been in a fatal car accident.

"3) Nintendo supposedly sent a C&D e-mail to the OTHER oot2d project, not this one. And there's a big question as to the truth of that as well. So I wouldn't make too much out of this."Actually, I think even the author of this other one (Daniel Barras?) stated that this never happened. As far as I know Nintendo never sent a C&D letter to makers of a fan-game/remake.Metroid Cubed, released a fews year ago (2d to 3d conversion of the NES game) is fairly known, and my site was visited multiple times by both Nintendo of America, and Nintendo of Japan, so they know about it. I never received any threats from them.
You're forever changed after reading this...? While I understand the need for sensitivity and respect in this situation, I'm inclined to ask you all to consider where this discussion is being had. "Teh internets" if you hadn't figured it out. There are far more disturbing things to be found here, particularly in regards to death. My sympathy to him and his family, but I can't say that this is any more disturbing than James Kim's death.R.I.P.
even tho he is dead, he was the best game creator that ever and will ever live, so leave him alone, i am a big zelda fan and you should all write something nice to him cuz all ur proving is how much of a jerk you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To anyone who might still be following:Someone at Kotaku pointed a link to a story of some teenagers getting hit by a car on February 18th of LAST YEAR in a town 7 hours away from Melbourne. Even without the date, the details don't fully match up. It was a hit and run and a reckless, speeding driver.<a class="user" href="http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,21406043-5003402,00.html">http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,21406043-5003402,00.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21419021-5006785,00.html">http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21419021-5006785,00.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/accused-driver-pleads-not-guilty/2007/03/27/1174761461410.html">http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/accused-driver-pleads-not-guilty/2007/03/27/1174761461410.html</a>But some of the details DO seem very similar. One of the people hit died at the hospital the next day. They were all walking down the street. It seems interesting because this has been in the news there for the last week because the trial has just started. It's been in all the papers. It was in the papers around March 21st, when Dampe was supposed to be hit by a car...Also, people might be interested to know that the board that this article points to is now "offline". Not taken down due to bandwidth or anything (or they would have taken it completely down). It just doesn't let you read any messages. Maybe this is temporary and I just caught it at a bad time. But still. At this point, I am VERY skeptical of this whole thing. I wish someone in the gaming press would actually investigate it. Unfortunately, the gaming industry press tend not to be "real" journalists that way.
