@legendxx - Witty reply, unfortunately you don't know economic history very well. I am still looking for the book where you received all of this knowledge from. Bread is not as influential to an empire as its economy. If there was no bread we would eat rice. If there was no jobs, what would we do?Also notice that all of our economic troubles were caused by war, fiat currency, and the institution of the Federal Reserve. We have all 3 of these depression bearing activities going on right now. Laugh all you want, but I am stocking up on canned goods, ammo, and hard money.
Thanks, I needed a good laugh. By the way, the solution to the country's economic problems is not force, it's common sense regulation and balanced business/economic policies. The U.S. sorely needs leadership the business community and Republican party "leaders" are incapable of providing due to conflicts of interest. The Democrats are no angels, but they recognize the dangers facing the country. As background, I'm neither a union member, nor a self-indulgent a**hole. I'm well versed in business, economics and geo-political strategy. This allows me to easily recognize a gathering ****storm when I see it. I predicted the Enron meltdown in mid-2000, the current housing and credit crisis 5 years ago, the subsequent dissolution of a major Wall Street Bank (e.g., Bear Sterns), the resurgence of Russia (due to the deregulated energy markets) and the current crisis at Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. While I've made a LOT of money from my work, I am justifiably alarmed by the current economic and political direction our country is taking and the resulting consequences. So, by all means, feel free to ignore my advice. The business community is flooded with the shattered careers of people who think just like you do.I'm not Marxist, I'm just not blinded by Republican OR Democratic ideology. Now, I realize truth can be a sobering experience for a demagogue, but do yourself a favor and conduct some objective research (beyond the Faux News Channel). Start with the national deficits (trade and national debt), then try to figure out how we're going to pay for the debt without a manufacturing base or decent jobs. Keep in mind, that's just the national debt. Just wait until you look at individual debt levels and wage rates. That's a real gut buster. Now, you may be fine financially, but that won't keep a large scale economic crash from affecting you. Debt issues aside, consider how we're supposed to defend ourselves or build our own weapons when COMMUNIST China has been allowed to swallow the majority of our manufacturing capacity. The Russian moves into Georgia were calculated to catch us in a weak position which our current government allowed to occur through poor strategic planning and misguided trade policies. It's no coincidence the Russians picked this moment to launch their invasion. They know we've been weakened by the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, our misguided economic policies over the past 20 years (yes, that's through Republican AND Democratic administrations), energy policies, and the current financial crisis. Anyone with a brain can see our current economic and political policies are destroying the country you claim to love. If that's not treason, then what is. Let me guess, you're a rabid free-trader who gladly supports the outsourcing of American technology and jobs to Communist China. Oh wait, don't tell me you also bought into the Republican line that the Chinese are our friends. Anyone with common sense and a little historical perspective can see the Chinese Government is playing us as fools until they get what they want, then they'll strike just as the Russians have in Georgia. Here's another little tidbit for you to ponder...the Chinese Government ran tanks over their own people, do you really think they're going to slow the tanks down for your family. As Benjamin Graham instructed Warren Buffett, truth is not determined by the number of people who agree with us, it's determined by looking at the facts and drawing the correct conclusion. Good luck. You're going to need it as long as you cling to that blinding ideology.
I applaud anyone who is wise enough to register AND strives to be an educated voter. You're certainly within your rights to vote your prejudices, even when you're mistaken. That's the beauty of being American. However, we shouldn't kid ourselves, it took more than one generation of our population to get us in the current mess. The world we currently live in was created over several generations by many people both inside and outside the country, but you should know that if you've done your homework. Don't waste your energy on the blame game as you'll only become even more bitter and disillusioned. Instead, use your energy to help "build the world you wish to live in".
The American empire has been disintegrating piecemeal since 1950. If the empire ends, so what. Most Americans are anti-imperialist. A resurgent Russia will eye resources in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Europe is a socialist basket case, and ripe for the picking. Africa and the Middle East have oil, but with apossible world recession, the capitalist way won't work. The Russians will grab it anyway. With the US out as a military power, the Russians and Chinese can have a field day.

The Good News Economist Says: Look at your own life experience in 2008. Does this past year indicate to you what is in store for you in 2009? Are you certain? Are you certian that the US Economy will be worse in 2008 than in 2009?Are you certain of any of these predictions? Why?Check out some safe harbor statements instead…http://mast-economy.blogspot.com/2008/12/new-years ...GNE
