You know, since the 2G Nanos, all the iPods have been blocked. They've had an encrypted firmware that disables the hability to install iPodLinux or Rockbox or whatever. This isn't news.
The VPN client is on both the iPhone and the iPod touch. MobileMailSettings.bundle contains the configuration utility for VPN, so once Mail.app is on the iPod touch it too will support VPN (I've done it with mine). This pertains to only PPTP and L2TP VPN.
