smarthouse.com.au — While analysts and Apple rumor sites have been speculating, Benq confirms that an iPhone is in the works. Their suppliers who work with Apple have been requested to supply parts for the iPhone. Benq also states that the Apple iPhone is common knowledge in Taiwan. The iPhone is expected to be released in the 4th quarter of this year.

Engadget is trying to pass this story off as their own - how typical

I'd take this article with a grain of salt. Smarthouse.com.au (and their hard copy magazine) Is well known within Australian hifi and tech circles for being.. uhhh... how shall I put this.... Full of s**t. One more than one occasion...They often copy other magazine articles word for word (I'm aware this is a legal practice when agreed to between magazines) but there is never any acknowledgment of this by s**thouse.com.au. As with many others, they only exist because of their marketing and advertising dollars, so there is never a bad word said about anything in their magazines or articles (on the rare occasion they write them)David Richards isn't a journalist either. He actually owns (or co-owns) an online hifi store called digitalhome.com.au (which you will see the link to down the bottom), and has come under huge criticism from hifi store owners for the way he conducts his business in conjunction with his magazine. He is without a shred of respect in the Australian hifi community.Where am I going with all this?? Nowhere really. Just wanted to alert folks to the history and character of the writer and say that this article may not be all it seems...Edit: I've got no axe to grind either. I'm not in the industry at all. I'm a public servant

I have a Motorola phone, and I must say the UI is not bad as you think. @thomashallock - Ever heard of shortcuts? The ones that you can press one of the directional arrows to go there...There is also another type of shortcut - Press menu on something such as the calendar and you can assign it as a number, then to access it, press Menu than the number you assigned to it. Of course, this works best for 9 numbersand you have the four directional arrows and then those message keys - that's at least 15 shortcuts... How many more do you need?@gregeth - I have lots) of contacts (250+), and don't find this to be a problem at all. Infact, you can put some of your important contacts on your SIM card, if you want to change phones. There's speed dial, and if you know the first character of the person's name, press the button that corresponds to that. All I can say is Moto is not a bad interface once you become used to it.

BenQ does some great (looking) products. I hope the phone won't be called "BenQSiemensApple iPhone".

Gizmodo had a cool roundup of the iPhone fakes:http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/cellphones/the-iphone-ispoof-art-show-123832.phpI swear, the search for the iPhone is starting to feel like the search for Bigfoot, or cold fusion, or perpetual motion. At one point last year, I was jonesing for Apple to do a phone, but since I've become a Treo addict, I think I'll be happy keeping my iPod and Treo as two different devices. I can't imagine what I'd do to the battery life if they were one unit.Apple gets a lot of things right (ok, awesome), but don't forget, they can pump out some crap too. Pippin, 1st generation Newton, Mac Cube, Mighty Mouse - they're as susceptible to dogs as anyone else. I'll check out the iPhone if it ever appears, but I'm not going to treat it like the second coming just yet.

Because of iCal integration."Never used a Smartphone with Outlook integration obviously"The phone may be the first ever to have a USEABLE MP# PLAYER. Because of iTunes integration."No, plenty of those around, Sony Ericsson make particularly good ones"The phone may be the first ever to have a USEABLE CAMERA because of iPhoto integration."I'll assume you were joking here, or have been in a come for 3 years "Otherwise its pretty much the same as any other phone but white."Yup........... oh hang on, it'll be black as well
