engadget.com — Apple and Palm kicked a lot of dirt at each other last week -- acting Apple CEO Tim Cook flatly told analysts "We will not stand for people ripping off our IP" when asked about competition like the Palm Pre. However, looking at some of Palm's patents, we can pretty much say that Apple's got some 'splainin to do. This is an in-depth comparison.

FACT: if the iPhone never existed, the Pre would not exist. The same goes for all the other iPhone clones that have come to market since. Everyone can sit and talk s**t right now about how this or that is the obvious way to do things, or that he or she had a demo of the general idea of multi-touch years ago, but until the iPhone was released NOBODY would have thought it could work on a cell phone. NOBODY wanted a touch-screen phone because all the previous ones SUCKED.Apple made these concepts seem obvious, as they often do, by getting the implementation spot-on and making the UI feel intuitive and easy to use. Yes competition is good, but these phones (and especially the Pre) are blatant rip-offs and Apple deserves credit in this case. Think about what your phone looked like and how you navigated menus before the iPhone was released. Now STFU.Oh, and don't even get me started about the app-store clones starting to appear...

They haven't sued ANYONE yet, you twit. But the tech blogs have certainly been tossing out comments fast and furious insinuating this for page views. Thanks for being part of the problem.

My question is with all these gestures on screen, what happens when you want to, say, copy some text from the site you are looking at? How do you do this in either of them?

I never explicitly stated anyone had sued anyone. My statement was specifically, "Why hasn't Apple sued Nokia yet?", you twit!
