So much for iToner.GarageBand compresses the ringtone to keep a deep sound and good bass despite being on the iPhone's mono speaker. Great move, Apple.

Many other smartphones are capable of playing waves and MP3's. Many of them, however, are crippled by the cell providers to make it very difficult to add any of those sorts of files to the phone. How is having an unavailable capability any better for the average user who will be unable or unwilling to do the hacking needed to access those services?
