apple.com — Apple has put up a page detailing the cost of the rate plans. They aren't as bad as people had thought: All plans with unlimited data - $60 for 450 minutes, $80 for 900 minutes and $100 for 1350 minutes. Existing customers can add unlimited data for $20 - $40 with a varying number of text messages.

Yes, I'm going to move to a new country because cell phones are too expensive in Canada. That makes a ton of sense.

Yeah. I can't imagine spending $1220 this year on a cellphone (cheapest possible), not when I can feed myself for a year or buy textbooks for less than that.

@jdpalite: a lot of the times the "extra fees" are taxes which the government charges the phone company. By passing these fees directly to the customer (without including it in their advertised price) they are commiting fraud.

Wow. You people in the US of A. really don’t mind coughing up a lot of money for your mobile phone plans, do you?So you pay $600 for the phone and e.g. $60/month for 15 "free" minutes/day.We have a plan/carrier here in Germany called Base that will give you a (phone and Internet) *flat rate* for 50 Euros (circa $66). And "Internet" here doesn’t mean GPRS, but UMTS (384 kbit/s downstream & 64 kbit/s upstream).(No iPhone, but this is not their fault. Just like you guys, we will have to wait until His Steveness has decided which carrier will be the lucky monopolist ... And it surely won’t be Base.)Not trying to brag here (I don’t have/use this plan), just wanted to add some perspective. And although the iPhone looks like the sweetest machine to come out this year, I surely won’t throw 720 to 1200 dollars per frickin’ year behind it ...
