iPhone is designed for US networks. Here in the UK we have brilliant 3G, but very little edge coverage. And compared to the devices people are getting for 'free' on similar, and cheaper contracts, I really can't see why anybody would fork out for the iPhone, other than the apple logo on the back.My phone has a 3 megapixel camera (with video recording) and it cost ?39.99 on pay-as-you-go.
Here are some reasons why people might like the iPhone. The iPhone has the most capable web browser and wifi. The iPhone is an iPod that plays video. The iPhone is made from good materials, not crappy plastic. There's not of EDGE coverage here in Denmark either, but it works on normal GPRS too. I rarely use it on GPRS, but it works very well for Google Maps. It's just fun to use.Congrats on your 3 megapixel camera. I bet it's crap compared to a DSLR, just like the iPhone camera is. Megapixels don't make a good camera.
In what manner was the iPhone "rubbish" poor signal ? Sound choppy ? I can't explain your exemplary performance with your SE, but I have not been able to hear callers on my K800i when in my local Apple store. Given the hubbub around iPhone displays I've seen this weekend I'm not surprised. Since I have an iPhone in the wild I can say my call quality has been as good as my old handset.
Someone who is going to spend £35 a month or more AND pay a fortune for the handset is going to be someone who gives a toss about technology. The iPhone lacks technology. The USP of the iPhone is that you can use your grubby fingers on the screen. Everything else is just substandard. My n95 was free on my o2 upgrade on a £20/month contract. 3G, WiFi,, 5mp camera, smaller physical profile, support for 3rd party apps, TV Out connection.... hmm now what would you have?

That's a cool entrance arch on the front of the store. I wish the US had more stuff like that.
