gizmodo.com — The first iPhone 3G battery test results are in, and it seems it beats the competition and Apple's own benchmarks with an average of five hours and 38 minutes talking non-stop on AT&T's 3G network. Apple's own tests give the new iPhone a five hour talk time over 3G. The closest competitor, only five minutes short, was the Samsung Instinct.

I was hoping for a little better battery life for mine. A charge lasts me about 12 hours of use (little voice, push enabled for exchange sync, every 15 minutes for imap, moderate texting and web throughout the day).

It's worse if you are using 3G, better if you are on EDGE.

I wonder if the "yellow tint" screens have anything to do with this lower battery consumption? :P

Not to mention the LG Dare which is LG/Verizon's iClone. In fact, I've seen nothing on Digg at all about the Dare. I like it quite a bit more than the iPhone. Just ordered mine this morning. (though I do think the iPhone app store is pretty sweet)

Ever thought you might make enough calls throughout the day that might add up to close to 5 hours. Or that its a general way to gauge battery life?

Sure the battery on iPhone 3G is not that great, but what can we do? We want small size phones, powerful features and lengthy battery life.Just get a backup battery. I got mine from iPhoneck brands. Their new 3G backup battery is probably one of the better looking products in the market. Their website is www.iphoneck.com
