latimesblogs.latimes.com — Thanks to one little feature addition to the iPhone 3GS -- the compass -- app developers can now create all kinds of augmented reality apps. Using the camera, compass, GPS and Web connectivity, we can get first-person shooter-like HUD overlays.

The Android has a great app called SkyMap that overlays starmaps as you pan the phone around. I'm eagerly looking forward to something equivalent for the iPhone, it's the only feature I saw on my friend's Google Phone that actually had me envious. Competition is AWESOME for the end users, wooooo!

@Dumledorito - You may be able to "background" apps, but your battery life is horrible too! I should know, I had a G1 for a few months but couldnt stand the craptastic battery life!

G1 doesnt even come with a video player! Great, your phone had a compass first. Too bad you couldnt use it after 3pm because the battery was dead!
