More bulls**t patent trolling.

You know what sucks? These are REAL patents... No kidding and Honeywell DOES own them.
Natural Language Installer Set Up for Controller
= Anything in plain English.
Controller Interface with Dynamic Schedule Display
= Anything that figures out today is Monday.
HVAC Controller
= Can't have that can we?
Thermostat with Mechanical User Interface
= Yes because "mechanical" controls were discovered at the cost of millions in research by Honeywell.
Thermostat with Offset Drive
= Offset drive is so much more difficult to think about than direct drive
Power Stealing Control Devices
= They are going after the electric companies for stealing their electricity patent with those generator things.
Profile Based Method for Deriving a Temperature Setpoint Using a ‘Delta’ Based On Cross-Indexing a Received Price-Point Level Signal.
= You can never ever change your temperature before you go on vacation.

Why is it that we still don't have any political dialogue going on about how broken the patent system is...
stubearFeb 7, 2012
Because we have elected officials who think (or are paid...er, financially endorsed...to think) corporations are people and more deserving of their attention then those who elected them into office.

I love Ron Paul, but I would change my vote to any presidential candidate that would delete the Patent system and kill every lawyer! Only then can our economy truely grow.

"[T]he product was designed and created by Tony Fadell, the former chief architect at Apple . . . . The company is backed by funding from Kleiner Perkins, Google Ventures and Al Gore’s investment fund."
Least Nest's legal team will be well funded.

Ok so move to China and sell online.

This illustrates, yet again, the need for a provision in patent law requiring that you use a patent or loose it. Honewell is using obvious patents to stifle competition in a market that they themselves have said they don't think is worth it.

This is everything that is wrong with USPTO...
"We thought about doing that and filed it with the USPTO but we couldn't do a good job marketing it. It seems you guys are doing a really good job, we're going to shut you down and then be free to copy the hell out of it!"
If they shut down Nest before I'm back in the US and I can't buy one at Best Buy I'm going to leave again.

I made a product by gluing two pieces of paper together.
PATENT INFRINGEMENT!!!!
Our world is broken and I can't fix it...
TheNoizeFeb 7, 2012
Honeywell makes s**t products because they hire s**t designers, so they're jealous of Nest.
