This seems a bit childish...One post saying i quit followed up by a poorly written post on how the site is closing down is certainly not the mature and expected way of closing FreeDB..
> But the whole point of free software is that no one owns it or everyone owns it.Feh; then what is "everyone" going to do about this? There seems to be a huge level of assumed entitlement going on here. J?rg has put six years of development into the project and Ari at least two. If they choose to leave the project, it is their right to do so.IMHO, we should be thanking them for all their hard work, looking at what we can do to contribute to the next iteration of freedb, and NOT whining that the people who have provided six years of a FREE service should grow up. There is NO rule that people who develop free useful software have to continue to develop / support / host it / etc. for the rest of their lives.
I've been using a local freedb database dump which I downloaded periodically via Bittorrent, to reduce strain on freedb's servers. I assume you'll be providing the same?
Why is freedb2 so slow? I've got a Perl test module that uses CDDB.pm to pull a single query based on discid. Using the host ffreedb.freedb.org takes about 2s to get an answer. Using the host freedb2.org takes 36s!Either: A) the freedb2 server is suddenly completely inundated with requests (hard to imagine), or B) the freedb2.org architecture sux. What up?

I read it and it wasn't at all clear to me. Maybe you are satisfied with a vague paraphrasing but others may not be.*sigh*

@ wistar: one person took a decision without waiting for the consent of the other members of the team. And maybe other things that we don't know. :)

it is possible also possible to use musicbrainz data directly in EAC and most other freedb enabled applicationssee: <a class="user" href="http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbrainz-users/2006-July/012741.html">http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbrainz-users/2006-July/012741.html</a>for details
