Nope, FB is an interesting diversion but it's not something I would pay for. If they went to a pay model, dozens of other options would be standing in line to take their place. My little group of friends would just pick another option.

This would result in a mass exodus.
I like Facebook and it's ability to connect me to my friends but I can always just go and hang out with them. I won't pay to get status updates on what any one of my friends is doing at a given point.

Your plan is fine for kids who are no older than HS or maybe first few years of college. After that, you don't live around your friends and FB helps keep people connected even after life has spread them out around the country and the world.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Well I'm sure I can survive falling out of touch with people I don't see or live/hang around. My parents and their parents have survived without Facebook so I'm sure I can too.
In fact a while ago I took a 6 month break from it just to see if life would be any different without it. It wasn't.

I guess a paywall worked for the NYT because they actually generate content that people value. I hope Facebook doesn't turn into another AOL, asking users to pay for a service that aggregates content then finding out that most people don't want it.

No. Just no.

I think this will be decline for facebook if they make it pro.

Did you see the numbers? They don't need a huge number of people to pay. If only 5% pay $5 a month they make $2.5 billion. That's billion with a B.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

They gonna play game with people. :p

So, Facebook should emulate Zynga and charge people for useless trinkets. I'm thinking Facebook is far more likely to keep their current model which is based on Google's which is using a contextual ad system to print bucket loads of money.
When you have close to 1 billion active users, you are the internet. And they don't compete with anyone because they control everything that the users see.

How much is Facebook worth when the power goes out?!!

Wallstreet; they can't even handle what they already have. They don't need to be impressed.

At first I thought h*ll no! Then when the article suggested no ads, great customization... I thought... well, maybe. I'm skeptical, but I'll keep an open mind.
