readwriteweb.com — Since August eyeOS has been completely rewritten and redesigned; however eyeOS is still an Open Source project, under the GPL license. Eduardo told Read/WriteWeb today that "the importance of eyeOS 1.0 isn't in its look or in its apps, but in its core."

@murdatsIt uses frames, so you'd still get the same restrictions as the browser your running eyeNav in...

It's not a real browser in eyeOS. It's simply the browser you're using to access eyeOS presenting it's display within the eyeOS frame. I know this for a fact because when I ran the eyeOS browser and did an IP lookup, I didn't get the IP of my web server at home (which would have been nice) but I got the IP of my client here at work.

I don't see why people want to duplicate the WIMPy interface on our desktop. Props to actually getting this to load in the browser, but... uh...

I'm sitting here, reading everyone's comments. I can understand all the reactions to this. So, for myself, I'm trying to figure out any kind of practical use for this kind of technology. Its a tough call.If it could somehow provide the end user a layer of security, then that would be a plus. If it could provide a slick, easy to program interface, then I could see it useful as a type CMS. (It would have to do some amazing s#|+ to be worth the extra effort though. Besides, no programming tool, no matter how great, can replace the thought process behind writing code.) Having access to files from anywhere? I'm not buying into that. There are a lot of solutions that are more secure than this that don't make you open your personal info to prying eyes of a central server admin. This thing would have to really wow me to reconsider it. For now, it just seems like a waste of resources.

as you well know, what I was getting at was adding documents to folders is a lot like uploading something to your web space.
