Andopod, thanks for doing the math...I didnt know the figures but it sounded like a lousy investment to me. I think most people with $100,000 cash to invest will think so also.
Agreed. He would need to GUARANTEE 100k back in the next 10 years plus like 5 percent of income after that to make it remotely worthwhile. Otherwise it would be like burning money. He would also have to include other sources of income like stock & ebay gains instead of just w2. Most people that make 30 million in their lifetimes don't make it from a normal job, they invest, start companies, etc.
You can't bid just like that ... read the fking rules on that auction (its right on the page scroll a little). You'll need to verify yourself (5$) and have a credit card on account. And so if you do win the aution (with your 100m bid?), they can get you with the ccard on the accout... plus by the time you finish all the reg. process, the auction would have been cancelled :)
If he doesn't have an income it won't be a debt...Maybe he's counting on inheriting a heavy load of money and not work at all for the rest of his life.

Why does he need $100,000 to go to college anyway?

With today's exchange rate, that might not be a bad thing. As long as he isn't moving to Canada.
