bits.blogs.nytimes.com— After months of speculation, the Facebook iPad application is finally available as a free download. The app is likely to benefit Apple and Facebook.

We've got an iPhone/ ipod Touch app. The delta from that to an iPad app is not just "make it bigger" but basically, design a new UI interaction model and them implement.
Been playing with since a few hours ago (not *for* few hours). Looks neat. Few interesting tricks. So far no stability problems on iPAD 1/4.3.5 - quite usable.
Because the website is not very touchscreen friendly. The app, while not perfect, is an improvement. Facebook is really a set of APIs so making apps and websites makes a lot of sense instead of trying to make the website work on so many different devices. This is especially pronounced on the iPhone where the app is very necessary.
Help! How To Comment at New Facebook for iPad app. I've been keenly awaiting the new Facebook iPad app. It's OK. There's a quick and reasonable summary at LifeHacker.
But I'm stuck on one thing. I can't figure how to comment on posts!

This made me laugh: "The app is likely to benefit Apple and Facebook"
Really? No kidding?

Sadly it just launches, shows a splash screen and then crashes on my 1st gen iPad. Would probably work if I powered it down and then back on, but bah.

Same on my ipad2.

I've restarted my iPad 2, still no working Facebook.

Uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have fixed the problem.

If that's true, they must have messed up the data model migration from the earlier version.
dajobeOct 11, 2011Staff
Yes, that works for me. Looks like they did screw up the upgrade.

Thanks. It was frustrating for a while. Problem fixed.

There are already a couple of iPad Digg apps by 3rd parties. Not endorsing any of them but ordering by last updated date: Digger HD http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/digger-hd-a-digg-client-for/id459376104 and DiggMixer http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/diggmixer/id359008334 (both are $0.99)

Digg works fine on my TouchPad, so it should work fine on an iPad. With a big enough screen, you don't need apps for everything.

facebook needs to sort the iphone app out to its rubbish!!

I'm not sure why people are dumb enough to actually think a facebook app is necessary...
