arstechnica.com — Verizon has released details of the agreement it and other ISPs signed last week to block access to Usenet groups that have been caught trafficking child pornography. Instead of simply blocking the handful of offending groups, however, Verizon has decided to enforce a blanket ban on what could be tens of thousands of completely innocent groups.

@schmich: No he has a fair counter argument. Verizon can sell what it likes- doesn't sell access? Well then you choose whether to go with them. Censorship is unavoidable- this is avoidable.

you think Verizon is bad, roadrunner is completely shutting down and running away from newsgroups for reasons: "not enough people use it"

logic dictatates that verizon will also be blocking all web portals to USENET. Don't know why you would assume otherwise.

Communist censorship. When there is drugs in a car on the freeway, we should close ALL roads. When someone chokes on an apple, then we should stop ALL fruits from being eaten. When a husband beats his wife, ALL husbands should be put in jail.etc...etc...etc.....A person can be smart, but a group of people are dumb....there are too many on "my network" at verizon.hahahahahahaha

alt.homerepair...... Give me a break!!!! This is an excuse for the telco's and cable companies to cut bandwith usage. Warez, Movies and Music are biggies in the .alt groups. Hollywood hates it, the telco's hate it. It consumes bandwith, and competes with them selling you more crap. The Kiddie porn thing is just a pathetic excuse. The bottom line is Money! What gives them the right to get you into a contract and then remove services from your agreement without penalty, Yet if you try to break your contract you obligated to pay them $200.00....... Who's looking out for the consumer...All the politicians and lawyers are like little scared girls to go against the big monopolies.BTW....As for New York State...where did the $80,000 come from that the ex-govenor spent on blow jobs....Im still waiting for my refund from that one....
