Some addicts perhaps, but socioeconomic, environment, etc also plays into addiction.

I'm just kidding.
akronFeb 3, 2012
I've often wondered if it is genetics that cause the socioeconomic situation, too.
mystic2awesomeFeb 3, 2012
6 of one and a half dozen of the other, when your path is blocked do you go over, around or blame the boulder sitting in the pathway?
akronFeb 3, 2012
You sit next to the boulder drinking a beer, and forgetting about it. After awhile you're superman, and remove it with your x-ray vision.
fluxFeb 3, 2012
ohh yes it is never your fault, it is always out of your hands no matter what happens you can always blame some one or something else. Yea for more progressive bulls**t dogma.
take responsibility for your actions and your life will be yours to control

This has been known for a long time.
But it does not mean that such an individual cannot resist effectively resist addictive behavior.

So if they are born that way is that considered a disability?
And if so, does the disability act apply for these people.
It would make the work place a lot more interesting.
razorsfuryFeb 4, 2012
No, it is not a disability. Just because a person is susceptible to something does not relieve them of the responsibility for their own actions. As with the case of alcoholics, it is not a disease. It is a choice. No matter how addicted a person is to a drink they still have a choice to not pick it up. Self discipline is what differentiates human beings from other animals.

It is actually wired before that. In about the 6th month of pregnancy.

"Self-control and the ability to regulate your emotions really is an indispensable aspect of the function of the brain that allows us to succeed," (from the article). I attended a recent presentation by a doctor that specializes in ADHD. She had a catch phrase related to the above statement: "Emotional Intelligence is the new IQ". It is not so much your ability to score well on tests but how well you can regulate your emotions and impulses that will determine your long-term success.
obamanotsixtyoneFeb 3, 2012
There you have it. Scientific proof your brain isn't normal like everyone else. Now look at this happy, loving couple enjoying a romantic sunset walk on the beach with their trusty dog not far behind. Don't you want to be like them? You can, ask your Dr if pills are right for you.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Just No. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36HquPzdxf4
razorsfuryFeb 3, 2012
bull s**t... its obvious some people are more susceptible to addictive behavior. You are an idiot for saying "Just No" to begin with then showing a clip for something that did not side with what you are saying.
Prenatal Environment:
"It's been shown for example if you stress a mother during pregnancy their children are more likely to have traits that predispose them to addictions and that's because development is shaped by the psychological and sociological environment... So the biology of human beings is very much affected by and uh programmed by being in the uteral..."
The link you show as your argument does not conflict with this article at all. Way to not listen to your own argument. Or maybe you just didn't understand it....
