torrentfreak.com — The DVD ripper aXXo is without a doubt one of the most popular DVD-rippers. Even though he hasn't been active since November 2007, his rips are still widely used, even by commercial outlets such as the John Lewis store. They must have thought, "Why use a real DVD if we can use a pirated movie for free?"

Good story.

Two-pass encoding doesn't specifically double the encoding time. The first pass looks for areas where it needs increased bit-rate (fast moving bits), or where cuts in the film are (where it needs to put a keyframe to stop weird artifacts)The first pass can quite often be quicker than the actual encode, and may speed up the second pass (I could be wrong about that, since I've not really converted all that much stuff)

All this aXXo arguing, you just have to look at the download figures to see that there clearly is the demand for his kind of rips and if they are too poor quality for you or you do not agree with the way he operates dont download them and stop bitching about people who do!

Seeing as how commercial use and distribution is what copyright law is ACTUALLY supposed to protect, in its original incarnation...

TBF, he/she (who am i kidding.. 'he') hijacks axxo's name for results but his rips are IMO, of a better quality.

I don't know about that.. Macy's is more to Selfridges than John Lewis..

I've seen the same thing on display PCs running Vista at Staples in Canada.
