engadget.com— Sounds like a touchscreen clickwheel wasn't quite as easy as they thought. Still, it's nice to know that this thing might not just be in the minds of inspired photoshop fakers.

yes, that's retarded to touch the screen with your fingers, especially when you want to watch a movie on the same screen. they should have the four buttons spaced equidistant on the top front of the device, and a long, thin touchpad along the edge of the device, so you can slide your finger or thumb along it to control volume and scroll through lists.
Couldn't they just use a standard touch screen? It doesn't need to be THAT sensitive, just enough to get your finger position on the wheel to about 2-3 degrees, and see where you click.
You got modded down (???) but that's exactly what I was thinking. A clickwheel on the back with raised ridges and a "virtual clickwheel" on the front so you could see what you are doing would work great. No smudges on the screen--no finicky and likely expensive touchscreen to contend with. A stylus eliminates the smudge factor but decreases usability. It seems like a clickwheel on the back could be the best of both worlds. I'd be interested in hearing why people don't like this idea.
Apple is garunteed to figure out this problem. There are going to be no clunky, misconcieved, or poorly designed aspects to the SIXTHgen iPod.And I should certainly hope they have a much better idea than to use the most un-iPod generation to date (3rd). There's nothing wrong with the third gen, it is still my favorite iPod, but it certainly was well replaced by the ingenious click wheel.I imagine any changes to the iPod interface will be welcome and well appraciated.
CAN WE SAY FINGERPRINTS????? This isn't real. Apple would not make a scroll wheen on the screen. Have you ever tried to watch a PSP with fingerprints all over it? It sucks!!
