malbela.com — RIAA President Cary Sherman gave a recent college press-conference where he addressed Sony's rootkit fiasco (among other things -- the whole trascript is worth reading for a quick visit to the planet greed). His take? Other companies do the same thing all the time!

"just because many ppl do it doesnt make it right"isnt that the phrase the RIAA say when ppl download music. With some of the actions the RIAA and companies are taking, downloading music will start to feel very right to ppl.

Quote for Article "During his closing remarks, Sherman once again stressed that the RIAA feels that p2p downloading is hurting more than just music artists. “And for generations, students have spent their hard-earned dollars on the music they love in the local college record store. How many of those stores are left now? Makes you realize just what the impact of illegal downloading can be, and why we've taken the actions we have.""The fact is that internet sales of music has sky rocketed over the last several years, and has given the consumers a new avenue to purchase the music that they want to purchase, and that is not to purchase $13 worth of songs to get the $3 worth of music that you wanted in the first place. The other thing that cracks me up is the fact that the RIAA, corporate America advocates at its finest, is worried about the mom and pop CD stores of the college community. I believe that that bit of sentiment was a far fetched cry of his actual beliefs

These people are fools. They need to understand that if they assume that we are all thieves and make things difficult for people to listen to their music when and where they want, they are just creating a whole generation of people who will break the law.

Rootkits, ahh that's not so bad. But if the user CHOOSES to activate a mini game, the game must be sent directly to hell to burn.
