last100.com — In a recent patent application by Microsoft, the company proposes paying Zune users a percentage of revenue from sales generated through tracks they've shared. Currently, shared tracks expire after three plays, after which users are offered the chance to make a purchase via Zune Marketplace.

Just as Windows Mobile devices are part of an integrated organizational system that can include your PC, your media, your email and contacts, as well as a whole host of other applications. The iPhone is lacking in many areas, but is that to say it's failing? Is that to say it's 3 years late and 3 dollars short? As market trends will tell you, not at all. The Zune is first-gen and has things the iPod doesn't. The iPhone is first-gen and has things Windows Mobile doesn't. Neither are bad products.

Coming from someone who hates Microsoft with a passion, I have to say, the Zune is a good piece of hardware. A really nicely sized screen, relatively decent price for the whole 30 gig system. Sure, it sucked having to set up all the extra s**t on my computer, but that's because it's MS software. All in all, the Zune is very nice.

Microsoft couldn't pay me enough to use a Zune.

You seriously think that the RIAA has the cajones to go after MICROSOFT?They're fine reaping their money from teen aged girls, thank you very much.

The chances of getting any money out of this feature are very unlikely. First, you need to find anther Zine player to share tracks with, this is already quite difficult to do. Secondly, the other Zane's may not have a good selection of tracks, and thirdly, purchasing a track based on the other two situations successfully happening are going to be very unlikely.Looks like yet another PR stunt by MS, and this "patent" is unlikely to send any more than 1 million dollars to zune customers in the life of the Zune.Oh, did i mention, a fourth situation could exist, the original Zune could have died by the time a sale is converted.Definitely too many things preventing any sales occurring.
