engadget.com — e kind of wish Microsoft would stop putting their best foot forward with the marketing peeps on Zune, and instead let the product stand on its own. Having Chris Stephenson get on camera for CBS and say stuff like "brown is the new black is the new white," and "welcome to the social -- that's one of our key lines" smacks a mite bit disingenuous

Some of these deluded iPod fanboys buy a new iPod every year just so they can have the latest model. Yes, these fanboys are *that* pathetic. So they have no problem "shelling out another couple hundred dollars".

A "social" is an old-fashioned term for a party. Of course the Zune's target market doesn't know that. Score another one for Microsoft.

Zune has some cool features and a fresh (no poop jokes) look. I don't mind the brown even. I hope Microsoft does well. I'll save my final judgements for when I actually get to hold it. I wasn't sold on my iPod till I touched that touch wheel. We'll see how my first impressions of the Zune go. I'm a little worried for Microsoft, though. This is a pretty tough market. If their store doesn't fare well, I hope they open the product to other services like Napster and Rhapsody. My iPod use has been handicapped greatly because I subscribe to Rhapsody and it's not supported on the iPod. Monthly subscription has to be one of the coolest things and Apple gives it no love.Overall I'm digging the new features. The wallpaper function is nice. An .mp3 player with any type of color is a nice change. WiFi is handicapped sadly, but maybe the next generations will fix it up. Zune is going to be good for all .mp3 player users. When you have a monopoly, you're not as inclined to innovate. Even if the Zune doesn't put a dent in the iPod's sleek, silver case, Apple will have to keep innovating to keep up.Who knows... maybe when the 11th of November comes along my 30gb video iPod will be up for sale. Then again, maybe it won't.

"I'm a little worried for Microsoft, though. This is a pretty tough market." Wow"Overall I'm digging the new features. The wallpaper function is nice. An .mp3 player with any type of color is a nice change." Yeah, well I guess one of the 5 that Apple offers is not brown so is that what you are leaning toward? (iPods have color.)Wallpaper? Hahaha. "Apple will have to keep innovating to keep up."Yes, you just described exactly what they have been doing for the last 30 years.

I know it's just a name, but personally, the zune name reminds me of nickelodeon.

Yeah... I'm not sold on the look of this one. Too bulky and looks cheap. I'm waiting for Zune 2.0

Watching that video makes me want to buy a new iPod even more."Brown is the new black is the new white". WTF

@EscamilloIf those people are iPod "fanboys", even if they do have the money to spend on a Zune from buying a new iPod every year, being "fanboys" of the iPod, are they likely to get a Zune?
