news.bbc.co.uk— People who have bought music from Microsoft's MSN Music store could face problems if they decide to buy the firm's new Zune portable player.

In a statement a Microsoft spokesperson said: "Since Zune is a separate offering that is not part of the Plays For Sure ecosystem, Zune content is not supported on Plays For Sure devices."Is it really accurate to call Plays For Sure an "ecosystem" at this point? ;)
I disagree about the Zune GUI. Although the GUI is slick, there is considerable wait between menus. Apparently, all that slick taxes the processor, something I was worried would be the case. I'm too impatient to wait for menus to load on my MP3 player. Also, there is excessive redundancy in the GUI when trying to get a track to play which makes the navigation process just a bit to confusing and definitely more work than on the iPod.Should Apple step up their GUI? They'll have to in order to not look old fashioned, but I suspect it's already in the works for their sixth gen model.
I am not sure M$ makes any money from selling the XBOX or XBOX 360? I think they still are losing money on each box sold, they are trying to flood the market.
What "business partners" are you referring to? PlaysForSure device makers? Microsoft is replacing MSN Music Store with the superior URGE to serve PlaysForSure. As for customers, MSN Music Store never took off, but songs bought from there will still play on PlaysForSure devices. They won't play on Zunes, but they couldn't play on Zunes before anyway. There are still plenty of PlaysForSure devices that will play those songs.
Opinions don't need backing up. Facts do. Saying that one doesn't like the Zune doesn't require a reason. Saying that the Zune is dead ahead of time because Microsoft is basically starting over instead of trying to pull new life out of PlaysForSure and cutting off whatever audience they may have already have would require facts. And, since they've announced that Zune isn't part of the PlaysForSure "ecosystem," the facts are established.
No, its true. The WiFi is crippled already. And, true, iPods don't do wifi, but they don't blindly announce that they have WiFi and then cripple it beyond belief.

Well, I'll make sure to have a "firm" grip on my Zune.

Indeed. I agree totally. I'll just continue to use my iPod.That is, of course, precisely what Microsoft does NOT want to hear. ;)
