blog.wired.com — Michael Calore writes about Zebo, a strange idea for a social networking site. "Zebo now has 4.9 million global users. The social networking site that asks members to list what possessions they own launched last week. Zebo was even profiled in The New York Times, and in that article, their membership number was cited at 4 million."

You won't buy want what you already have but you might buy something similar. That's why it's great for marketers. Easy way to tell what people are interested in and what they might want to buy. See lots of computer stuff on someone's list, try to sell them more computer stuff. Doesn't have to be specific products.

It is the next myspace, in terms of design.

The fact that there are a lot of social networking sites indicates that we have found an underlying feature/technology that has slightly shifted the paradigm of an online site/community/forum etc. While it is tough to displace the giants currently - like myspace. Its safe to say that you can provide more to your users by allowing them to interact with the site and the sites other users. In the case of myspace - we have a first-order network. The network of myspace is simply all that was there. Only now is myspace trying to branch out and bolt utility to the userbase. Previously - the social network WAS the feature. In recent months - the sites that are cropping up are attempting to invent a novel feature or utility of a site and have social netwokring capability as a granted foundational function of the site.

I've never heard of this site, is it new and if they are, how can they already have 4.9 million users? At least they keep it down to the basics."You own a phone? I own a phone! Gee, we have alot in common!"

The point is, every one wants "computer stuff," and every one wants a "cool car," and this guy wants "girls under 18."The things listed here are either obvious, or absurd.

This site definitely has no credibility. I hate the idea that people just say they "own" a Ferrari. Since it's only driven by tags, the developers get credit for having to do very little work for content. To see a site that actually uses a database of products, it's in beta mode now. <a class="user" href="http://www.burningpockets.com">http://www.burningpockets.com</a> It's pretty much the same thing but with real products from Amazon. I dugg it if you want to check my history.
