splashpage.mtv.com— In the “new” ending, the moral dilemma was the same, but the mechanics were different — and missing in action was one highly anticipated giant squid.

I'm not sure it's so much about being hell-bent on pissing off the fans. I mean he's the director of this film. I think for professional (and I assume legal) reasons, he can't start saying "Yea, so I was forced by my bosses to not use the giant, psychic squid and had to settle for this s**t idea instead. It's okay but not as cool as if I put the squid in. Enjoy anyway."
No one except Janey has any hold on Jon. How is the government supposed to find a way to make him stay if he doesn't want to stay? A big point in the comic book is that Jon doesn't care about the affairs about humans, he sees them as no different than we see ants. And that's an important thing, it's to give the reader some perspective. No human cares if two colonies of ants go to war and wipe each other out. And Jon doesn't care if two human colonies go to war.Snyder may brag that he kept in the "God exists and he's American" line, but this will remove the "I've become interested in human life, I think I'll go make some" line, because Manhattan will leave on a lot different terms.
Exactly as I called it. This is why Alan Moore pulled out of "V is for Vendetta" as well. Can't have people getting the true message of his work, then they wouldn't all be good little sheep.
I don't like the sound of the new ending at ALL, given you can't encompass watchmen in a single film anyway, but if the climactic disaster is linked to Dr Manhattan it is linked to America no matter what. Dr Manhattan was part of the war form the get go and the whole point of Ozymondais' plot was to convince the people that they faced something completely unknown and Dr manhattan is far from it. I think it's also very important that he kills americans, his own people, and noone else. Regardless of the ending, i expect the film to be along the lines of others based on the books of Alan Moore, good films in their own right, but poor adaptations that present a very different message from the original.
"God is real and he's American" is the original line the character used, but when that character was quoted in the story it was censored to "Superman exists, and he's American."
THIS IS TRUTH.A lot of us (myself included) might be 'fanboys' but we are because the material is GOOD. f**k all this "have faith in the writer/director/etc" bulls**t! If the goddamn sonofabitch can't do it right, then DON'T DO IT AT ALL.And if you think the squid wasn't essential to the end then you DON'T get what Watchmen is about, and you can kindly go enjoy your Michael Bay movies.
What in the hell? You want to talk stupid, read your own post again. It didn't have to be a 'squid'. In fact, it wasn't a SQUID, it was an artificial 'alien' creature. It looked like it did to shock and awe and frighten people in the aftermath of Ozy's plan. IT was designed to be weird, artificial, ALIEN. There was a quote by Reagan back in the day that ufologists LOVE to talk about where he mentions that what mankind would need to bring it together is a threat greater than itself, something to unite all people. Dr Manhattan being the 'source' of the end point is laughably stupid. 'Recreate Cloverfield'? WTF, are you recovering from a head wound? If you thought the original ending was 'silly' because of the creature, you missed the point of the entire book. That being the case, kindly shut the f**k up.
