lettersofnote.com — In 1998, aged just 14, aspiring young cartoonist Amir Avni decided to get in touch with the creator of Ren & Stimpy, John Kricfalusi. Being a hardcore fan of Kricfalusi's work, Amir sent him an introductory letter along with a few cartoons he'd drawn. To call Kricfalusi's response 'generous' would be an understatement...

I miss Ren & Stimpy. John K has such an awesomely bizarre sense of humor. "I don't think you're happy enough. That's right. I'll teach you to be happy. I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs." http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids. ...

Is that an @aol.com e-mail address? I guess there weren't many options back in '98.

That handwriting actually did look like it came from the guy who draws Ren and Stimpy.

@Frostek It is difficult to define "own". Do I own the music on a cd once I buy it? Do I own a guitar solo, even though I used techniques that BB King pioneered? It is very difficult to draw that line. True artists aren't concerned with what they own. They're concerned with what they share. This is a perfect example of an artist sharing his craft, and connecting with another person.

I think he was talking more about animation than anything else. The animation is more 'solid', as he pointed out, than today's animation.
