cnn.com— Beaming people in Star Trek fashion is still in the realms of science fiction but physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter. Sounds like my fax machine with scanning fax feature...

Like many have said, this isn't likely for teleporting animate beings. However, just being able to use it for inanimate objects would revolutionize the transportation industry. Traffic would be greatly improved, because the only thing transported on highways would be people. Ordering a product online would mean instant delivery. Warehouses would no longer be necessary. The whole postal service would be irrelevant. There would be a lot of major improvements to quality of life.
I doubt his publishers have allowed that to go online. If anyone wants to read it, it's in Skeleton Crew.I did think of that story when I read this article. His shorts are very good.
See, when someone suggests that something exists, the burden of proof is with them. What evidence do you have that "astral bodies" exist? None that can be credibly verified? I thought not.
Totally illogical and unrealistic. Why would people risk teleportation when we will have machines to carry out their needs? - This is the path we are headed down. Robotics will eventually evolve to the point of being able to accomplish people needs. Teleportation would be a high risk and unessential process which would not fit our lifestyles. However, man machine interfacing will certainly bring it's own set of nightmares to humanity.
I think there's a heap of new scientific discoveries to come which will blow our minds and solve the teleport problems. I think this whole "scan, destroy, transmit, rebuild" is a non-starter. I'd be more worried about how to build a machine that creates matter at the other end than the problems involved in storing and tranmitting a load of data. Why scan at all? A better system would involve actually relocating the original object to a distant point. This is genuine teleportation and would not require destroying the original and would possibly overcome the theological questions. Some form of bending space-time perhaps?

It seems like one more step towards bit-torrent for hardware.
