sciam.com— It is not the cartoons that make your kids smack playmates or violently grab their toys but, rather, a lack of social skills, according to new research.

Bulls**t. It may be an effective method of getting children to do what you want, but it is a coward's way of parenting. My parents never hit me and I was never a delinquent. Not to say that I didn't mouth off and get disciplined, but not physically. Look at most of the lower income, uneducated families that resort to violence, and then wonder why their boys go on to get into physical altercations, or that their girls seek out lowlife scum to treat them like s**t, because they're used to how daddy used to yell, hit them, and tell them they're worthless. Pfft. People who think its necessary to physically discipline their children through pain, should not have them in the first place.
yes, but he question then lies in what pisses you off? and can violent meda or parental guidence predispose you to having more things that piss you off... also, how you react when you are pissed off could also be studied.
One thing a friend of mine does is thump her daughter really hard on the head and say something like Doofus or ninny and then explain why what she did was lame as all get out.
It can be really worrying for parents when their kids suddenly become violent for no apparent reason, particularly around the age of two. My own daughter suddenly started swaggering around playgroup like a cast member from prison drama Oz, smacking kids into walls, scratching faces, all kinds. It was really distressing, particularly when other parents started getting (understandably) annoyed. Luckily it was just a phase, and she's an angel now - but I do believe there's something ingrained in kids that makes them go through this phase. Either that or In The Night Garden is full of violent subliminal messages, take your pick.

And I sure wish these sorts of people could be prevented from becoming parents in the first place.
