This doesn't work, My social network is filled with skinny people and it only makes me larger by comparison.

Yeah, I was about to say... Groundbreaking? Uh, no. Common sense, yup.

Just checked out the original study - http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/357/4/370. It is definitely focused on the spreading of obesity over the last 10 years, but they also talk about how the social network "phenomena" also applies to weight loss (and alcohol and smoking cessation). Here are some other articles the study refers to about it:Wing RR, Jeffery RW. Benefits of recruiting participants with friends and increasing social support for weight loss and maintenance. I can believe this. I know that when me and 4 of my other girlfriends started to force each other to get to the gym we all had each other to lean on and encourage. We usually all go out to lunch together since we work in fairly close places but just having them there for encouragement helps a lot. We all take Green Tea Extract to help us stay in prime condition. Since we started this regiment 3 months ago as a group we have lost 42 lbs the last time we figured the number. This is the website to the Green Tea Product http://greenteaevolution.com We use a work out my friend Karyn's brother made for us but mostly its just high intensity weight lifting (high reps and low rest) and follow that up with a medicine ball core work out and fifteen minutes of cardio on the elliptical machine. Work out with your friends it works!

Losing weight takes some time. Support groups can be extremely beneficial - peer pressure. They can also be detrimental if your group enables procrastination or gives you the OK not to workout today or eat more.
