I hear what you are saying, but the growth isn't really exponential...although the earth's population is growing fast. Like all things, it should, and always does stabilize. Especially as their standard of living comes up to something...livable. Still though, overpopulation is a long ways away here. We have so much good land here, it's just wasted and used for the wrong priorities.
The biggest thing missing from this presentation is a distinction between legal and illegal immigration. A sustainable level of LEGAL immigration is good for the U.S. Diversity is good for the U.S. The current uncontrolled chaos is not.@jerbaker"I said... "yeah... but I heard they got deported". He told me they were waiting for him to come by so they could get their paycheck."An awful situation, but brought about by the fact that they were here illegally. They would not have been subject to deportation if they had been legally here in the U.S. This may have been carried out in a mean-spirited way, or it may have been xenophobically motivated, but essentially what you are talking about is law enforcement, which is a good thing, and which doesn't happen nearly enough.
@ 1021 (programmer from India).I am by all means not a racist but I am so sick of you Indian programmers coming here, making money, s**tting US and leaving back to India. Did anyone drag you here? You came to US to make money, without any other reason, you got a nice job which could be occupied by someone who actually contributes to US society and now you are s**tting everything in this country. Why come here? Just stay in your country with "booming economy" and cast system. We have hundreds of Indians (OTB-types) working in our building and I have to tell you that most of them are quite arrogant and diss US quite often. They mainly communicate among themselves and many even live together. In other words, these people have no interest in the country, its society, or anything -- they are here just for the money. An interesting note: when you get into elevator with them, they wait until someone presses a button for them, sometimes telling a floor number to a non-Indian person who comes into elevator. This is not anti-Indian post. This is a post against programmers who come from India to work in US and then leave without contributing anything to the society.
I believe he knows nothing about economics. Dont you understand the importance of inmigration to grow our real GDP?. He is just a anti-inmigration guy, so he just show the data he want us to see. (the graph is very very tricky too) .
I didn't see a copyright on the video, but I did gather that it was done sometime in the 1990's... say middle of the decade for grins. Now, notice that his prediction for the U.S. hitting 300 million was 2010. We just crossed it last month. Couple this with the fact that immigration is speeding up even more, and it's a bleak picture, indeed, now that the Democrats have control of the entire congress. Not that total Republican control is any better, mind you. But in the context of immigration, this is only going to get worse.Want to know what really irks me? A friend of mine legally immigrated to the U.S. in the 90s and has citizenship. He was stopped by the police for speeding, but didn't have his license with him. He was arrested and his car impounded because the cop thought he was giving a fake name and address because he was illegal and his girlfriend doesn't speak English, whereas I would have been issued a ticket and sent on my way. He's suing his city for discrimination. The irony is that while he has an open and shut case due to his arrest based solely on his race (by a black cop, no less), any settlement rightly owed him only hurts the system even more because the authorities will be that much more hesitant to do anything when they suspect someone of being here illegally. He can't drop it because he lost his job due to the arrest... he is genuinely owed something. He couldn't even get so much as an apology from anyone, much less his job back... and he was still issued the citation for not having his license on him. Just one more indirect cause of a massive illegal immigration problem. It does affect everyone.
A great presentation?... are you kidding! This guy has more bulls**t coming out of his candy ass, then a cow stunned by a scarecrow. I don't care what his intention was, his intentions don't affect the inaccuracy of his presentation."Immigration……destroys Environmental Resources, standard of living, rips the social fabric of our country"Remarks by Roy Becks during his presentations against immigration-Immigrants pay taxes too. Because no one is handing them free Banana Republic T-shirts.-Immigrants revolutionize the capitalist based economy which infuse new scientific and practical innovations for profit.-Supply and demand great concept, bad when its used against you politically. The issue will continue, because there is a market for the services provided by illegal immigrants.-Go visit any metropolitan cities "English as a second language workshops", they're making big bucks, because you'll find their classes are full of Latinos.-The role of immigrants in the years ahead will help the U.S in filling the State gaps by promoting the growth on the number of Congressional seats.-If you lobby enough and provide enough money to grease the right wheels, you can write any law you want too.My counter arguments when Anglo-Americans give their misguided opinions about immigration. I posted these points not only to Caucasians but anyone who may read it so they can find the truth, proof, evidence, and facts -regarding the illegal immigration situation.
As you may have notice, the immigration debate has elevated couple of notches... In my manuscript "ONE KING, ONE RACE, ONE WORLD" I commence to write about this hot topic, immigration...Immigration not only affects the western hemisphere, but all other regions of our only blue planet...My approach to the immigration issue is very simple, we as human beings have the right to live anywhere on this planet, and it's our right to do so…Its in every body's interest to help other regions in dire economic needs, it will only bring balance, long term prosperity, wealth, and security...What does this mean to the Industrialized Nations?Simple, once NATIONS around the world have a thriving economy, less people will migrate to your Nation/s… Then you will beg us to enter as tourist, instead of kicking us out.By not allowing human beings to enter a certain region, then you have just created an underground economy, zero-tolerance, xenophobia, ignorance, prejudice groups, racism, wasted negative time and energy on how we take your jobs and or business opportunities. Life's are at risk, because certain ethnic groups are afraid to report crime and or partake in civic duties, since they are considered illegal aliens (Undesirable Human beings). All Nations have the right to protect their borders from individuals, groups and or from other Nations, just as the head of the family has the right to defend his or her place of residence from intruders…Remember bad apples are found in every race, ethnic groups around the world, and those need to be dealt swiftly. In most cases immigrants who move from one region to another only want and need to have a normal life, unfortunately their current regions cannot meet such goals (a decent way of life, a promising job/career and safety for his or her family)…If you must put blame, put blame where it belongs!Who are we to blame? For starters Governments around the world who steal from their own people, who are unwilling to share the Nations riches by providing proper infrastructure, employment, housing, create a safe and secure environment for all who live within such region. These Governments just seat by and watch their people starve, and or die with unfulfilled goals/dreams. How about, the wealthy elite families and or large corporations around the world who only think of themselves by exploiting these poor regions with weak Governments, who destroy local environment, who pay miserable low wages, with horrible, terrible, and awful work conditions…To all Citizens who belong to the privileged wealthy Nations known as the (Industrialized Regions), put yourself in the shoes of these poor third world citizens! If you found yourself at the bottom of the totem pole, what would you do?You have the answer and we know what it is, finding a better place to live for you and your families… I reiterate all human beings have the right to live in a decent environment, with basic needs such as; Shelter, food, a career/job, success, hobbies, and or to create a family, if its their wish to do so.To all EARTH CITIZENS of this majestic blue planet of ours: If we put our lives in perspective, then you will come to realize that life is extremely short. We the HUMAN RACE need to come as one, by removing all borders! And until then, we shall truly be UNITED as one. There are those such as the media, religion, commerce, and world governments who thrive on disinformation and for you TO stay ignorant, because it accomplishes their goals, to separate the human race…Lets evolve to the next level of understanding.Be part of the Intellectual Revolution!
Many people believe securing the borders with large fences is a way to keep people out and immigration to stop. I believe immigration will decline if these walls were erected, but who are we to decide who is allowed to enter this nation? Every person deserves the right to travel to a place that gives them the best opportunities whether it?s the U.S. or not. People have an understood right to obtain an education and to freedom which includes choosing where they want to live. Immigrants should also have the same rights as natives of a nation. This includes equal rights to good education. In order for a nation to become knowledgeable, the rationality of education for everyone must be in place for the U.S. citizens to think for themselves and continue to move forward. Education for all also allows people to make educated decisions when voting and not rely on the thoughts of others. Closing the borders would be detrimental and immigrants that do enter the U.S. need to have secured and equal rights.
You make many interesting points. Urban / suburban sprawl is an interesting one. Here in California I see thousands of acres of prime land covered with houses. In the long run it isn't a good choice for our society but in the short run it is a cheap way to add housing. So many cities rot in the center and the outer shell expands until it touches another expanding shell from another city. Ultimately you get one large suburban sprawl with pockets of decay and no open space or agricultural land.If we could think in longer time frames and plan for what is best for everyone, we would be better off, however, the I can't see that happening. Most decisions are very short term oriented.I have little faith in our government. They seem unable to deal with energy, education, health care or immigration. I've come to the conclusion that we need to be more self reliant. Democracies tend to react when the crisis is so great they must react. We're not there yet. Millions of us can see looming problems but our government seems deaf and blind.
All those are predictions, and predictions are not facts.we can all assume we know something but be wrong. How many people want to predict the cowboys are going to win the superbowl next year?
