It could be they want to sell content à la Apple Music Store. Also they could decrease their bandwith expenses if they switch to a p2p network. I think many people would follow YouTube if you had first to run a p2p service (dijjer for instance).
The next step for You Tube is obvious...the tube...with 12,000,000 plus viewers it should air an annual awards show which will raise significant capital.
