washingtonpost.com — On YouTube, where members are encouraged to express themselves through amateur video, it took only a few hours before they started chiming in on Google's $1.65 billion acquisition of the popular online video site.

Whilst I agree with you, it doesn't mean Google have dismissed the appearance of their products. Google is all about functionality, making it work. Once the service "holds it own" I would hope additions such as an improved UI would be added.

If you use firefox, you have total control over what your Google Services look like. There are extensions out there (one in particular) that allows you to import javascript files that not only change the layout but also can change the colors of the standard google site. Gmail can be changed around using the UserContent.css that comes default with firefox under the user profile folder.for example, here is what my gmail looks like: <a class="user" href="http://gvibe06.googlepages.com/Picture1.png">http://gvibe06.googlepages.com/Picture1.png</a>I shall not spam (more than I already have) .. so its up to you to search and find the same way I did.

Honestly, 50% of the time I go over to Youtube I'm there to watch copyright material. I go there to watch last night's Colbert segment, a music video, a Fox News piece, or a funny clip from movie that miraculously happens to be on the site. If this material disappears, I'll be using Youtube about half as much as I currently do. I'm not saying it's right or wrong for Youtube to be hosting copyright stuff... I'm just stating a fact of my usage.

Hopefully the Family Guy clips will stay.

The media industry IS NOT GOING TO SUE.Look at the screenplay for the napster-story:1. They sued Napster.2. Napster died, about 10 different companies took its place. 3. They sued about 10 companies. Pretty much won whenever it was a company.4. The kazaa's and limeshare's died: 10,000 bittorrent trackers took its place.5. Now there are trying to sue and harrass 10,000 bittorrent trackers...At least they can get (some) money from YouTube/Google and negotionate about it. It is in their very interest that it remains centralised and controlled by some company. That is why they want (and have) contracts with Google and YouTube.Secondly, who the hell is going to mess with Google. If you kick your site out of the search: you're dead on the internet.
