dailytechnobabble.com — Think eBay is safe for sellers? Think again, two items auctioned, both hijacked by Nigerians....further proof that eBay is now nothing but a e-cesspool of scams. Ohh, and any response from eBay? Nope....nothing.

Actually at least in regard to Nigerian email scammers there are groups who have fun with them, starting up long email conversations like they are rubes who are ready to be scammed, even setting up appointments to meet the scammers (posing as corrupt government officials) and then having someone videotape the idiot showing up to meet the person they think they are going to scam then posting the whole thing on the web. Problem is I don't remember the URL. Anyway, lots of good advice on this whole commentary stream. Dugg.

I just recently tried to sell a Palm Pilot on Ebay. Today I saw this article before the palm sold and I was like hmmm... that's weird I don't remember any Nigerians. Low and behold the winning bidder sends me this e-mail:Dear seller, Am pleased to be the winner of your item and this item is a gift for my doctor who is presently in abroad "Nigeria". I have contacted USPS postal service and i was told that it will cost me $120 to ship the item, so add it to the total cost. I will be paying you for this transaction to be concluded very fast via my paypal account and not any other means of payment method please, and you will be Notified of the paypal payment confirmation very soon. It's my pleasure having a transaction with you. I would have loved to send the item to Nigeria personally but I am not presently in US, I am really sorry for any inconveniences. Here is the shipping address below.Name: Dr johnson jamesAddress: No 13,moshood abiola way, challenge,City: IbadanState: Oyo state Country: NigeriaZipcode: 23402I will make the payment anytime from now.Do get to send out the package upon receiving confirmation of payment frompaypal as soon as possible. I will appreciate it a lot if you can kindly help me wrap the package very well so that it will get to himundamaged and unstained.Cheers!!!..... great I finally get a taste of why Ebay sucks.

As a follow up to my own story I'm glad to say there's a way to beat the Nigerians. Just contact the second best bidder but don't ask for a second chance offer. See if they would just like to have an invoice sent through paypal. This way you don't have to relist the item and the amount of money you lose is minimal. Also about the reputation of the Nigerian. Somehow he had 4 positive reviews before the auction was over. I'm not sure how this happened. Of course right after my auction and somebody else's he quickly got 2 negative reviews.

In a response to the second chance thing. It's free to list a second chance but Ebay takes a percentage of the final price. It sucks.

And millions of other people have the same story. Too bad the internet was built on bitching about stuff.

That is so friggin' messed up. How is this even possible?

The solution is simple, sell items that don't need shipping. Digital downloads or ebooks etc... No shipping, no Customs, 'ship' worldwide. Learn how;http://www.squidoo.com/sell-magazine-subscriptions ...

I'm glad I still make a ton of money on e-bay,and I help other's do the same.I am so sick of all those scams. But ebay needs to allow sellers to leave negitive feedback also. But truthfully, there's no negitive feedback in the real world, I think if some one wants a refund, then ebay should make a rule to allow for refunds on all items. This will force the scams to stop. Craigslist with a local in-person deal is probably the best way to go for something like notebook computers. No Nigerians, no insane fees, no PayPal chargebacks.EBay is nothing like it used to be. Corporate greed has ruined it. We used to use it a lot for buying/selling music. Now we list way more on GEMM http://www.gmv2574.gemm.com and send people there if we don't have what they want. We get results there, the fees are fair, the buyers have all been pretty great. And the customer service from the site beats eBay hands down.

Give me a break, without Tim Berners Lee and the CERN you'd have the internet but no outside-of-military uses.

Yeah, it's like people want to be reimbursed for getting blatantly scammed. It isn't ebays job to watch over anyone like a guardian angel. If you have any brains you should only get scammed VERY rarely, and that's if you're buying and selling all the time.

I don't believe that ebay is a total joke. I personally love ebay. http://www.marketwithartemis.com

I totally agree! That's why we should all stay away from Freakbay! If we all stopped supporting it, it would cease to exist more and more. They are nothing but greedy crooks and has ruined the online auction experience by their greed.

You might want to check out the new innovative auction website - http://www.bestebazaar.com.
here the sellers and buyers both are in a win - win situation.
bestebazaar.com is a for of auction where the price falls the whole time until someone buys it, while the price for the seller increases till the auction ends.
Sellers list their items for sale and buyers buy at the lowest price.
Image an ebay seller has posted an Ipod / laptop , etc for sale and the buyer buys it at a price lower than its retail price while the seller gets paid an amount which is higher than the retail price.
