I'm a mac user.. I do love the idea that Greenpeace is going for a more conscious approach than the regular picketing/protesting/terrorism. I believe that Apple should take on a greener approach to their business model. There has to be ways in which they can make really cool and environmentally safe gear.Kudos to Greenpeace
I am a mac fan but I do support what greenpeace is doing here.First of all, I don't care if there are "less green manufacturers". I expect better from Apple. I expect a progressive environment-friendly policy from Apple. They shouldn't be content with 'being average'.Second of all, Greenpeace is obviously targetting Apple because any article concerning Apple is picked up by all sorts of media. Target Apple and you get free publicity. Nobody would care if greenpeace targetted Sandisk. But is using publicity tricks such a bad thing in this case? Greenpeace is fighting a good cause and they should get some publicity. Besides, we all know that when Apple announces a green environment policy that it will again receive lots of publicity because of this. With a bit of luck, other companies will want to have the same sort of publicity, and implement green policies too.
I totally agree with Greenpeace on this one. The Battery in my old 3g ipod is crap. Ive already replaced it twice! - I don't really want to buy a new one, as apart from the battery it still works, and more importantly - it does what i want it to do - play music! - I don't want to watch videos on the tiny screen, or play games in colour - I just want to listen to music, and for more than 4 hours in-between charges!!!!Sure when my ipod finally gives up, I will buy something new - but I will be looking for a more environmentally friendly option if one is available!
How can the truth be unfair? Apple produces e-waste. It doesn't matter what anyone else does. I hope the campaign is successful in convincing Apple to start using non-toxic components in their computers.
Thats not really a fair point, apple for several years had the slogan "think different", all greenpeace are trying to do is point out that most of the people that use apple computers tend to be "hippies" trying to get away from the evil that is microsoft, admitably other companys might be worse but when you pay considerably more for macs i think we can expect apple to "think defferent" and lead the pack in this. remember apple doesn't make its stuff them selves, companys like foxcon, asustek, quanta etc make their computers. hp use the same companys and yet they manage to have a sound (and supported) enviromental policy on these chemicals. greenpeace are just trying to encourage apple to do the same as other companies and possibly spend 15 more cents on using good and happy chemicals not bad and unhappy ones :-)
You can't recycle toxic waste:"If Apple doesn't drop the toxics from its products, it doesn't matter how good a recycling program they have. Because toxics make recycling more hazardous. And eventually, the toxic chemicals will be released. Dropping toxics makes reuse and recycling of products simpler, safer and cheaper."
I love Apple and would recommend buying one to most of friends. Though, I gotta admit that I would have always felt easier about, it if there wouldn't have been those issues Greenpeace is just mentioning here! Also I think the way Greenpeace is doing in it's propaganda in this project is just awesome and totally new. It's humorous in some sense, significant and uses modern ways of spreading the word - using digg etc is cool and good!
as a professional of recycling i can tell you everybody should care enviroment and toxic waste if you care about the future .this campaign will be very helpful because productors of ipdods and macbooks care about their reputation (even if they dont care about environment)lee - computer recycling service http://www.utopiawaste.co.uk/
Greenpeace will always set higher standards for improving the environmental conditions. However, they have always used a more subtle methods rather than forcing/pin-pointing the cause on these major corporations. Because of Greenpeace and other supporters pushing these standards on companies, we know have the exact product, if not better, that is economically viable and poses less threat the the environment. I can live with that, so can millions of people around the world.
It may seem like Greenpeace is 'attacking' Apple, specifically. However, they have done the same with other companies as well. It's their job to help them become more environmentally aware of the consequences of their products. It's not a scare tactic. They aren't criticizing Apple, but simply saying they company can do better and that they should for the sake of the environment.

The point: Greenpeace has no interest in presenting facts or reality in environmental issues. They spend a lot of money pushing reports that are not only inaccurate, but intentionally misleading.http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1707683/posts

Yeah, damn them! In this case, their agenda is to prevent people in 3rd-world countries from being poisoned. The bastards.
