It's amazing how people are just making things up. Harvard does indeed award scholarships based upon academic achievement that are not need-based (they're called merit scholarships). These scholarships can be awarded to anyone regardless of their financial situation. For this reason, it is quite possible for somebody who is smart enough/who worked hard enough to receive a scholarship to attend Harvard without being poor. Also, have you never heard of student loans? Are you unaware that thousands upon thousands of private institutions give scholarships as well? Many of the people I know who attended ivy league schools were able to do so not because they came from rich families or because they were "dirt poor" and received financial aid, but because they took out student loans, applied for and received merit scholarships, and worked their way through college.Man, it's no wonder all of you seem so convinced that only geniuses can get into the ivy leagues: you are all incredibly ignorant and unwilling to educate yourself.
You'd be surprised that the school itself is not necessarily more expensive than others. Rather they're kids who could afford tutors during high school.

"We Suck." Yep, the outstanding students of Yale thought of that all by themselves.
