pcworld.com — They want to make all Yahoo! sites integrated together as a huge social network! | Yahoo is swinging the doors of its Web platforms wide open to let outside developers create applications across its network of sites, as well as radically stitching together its online services under the social profile concept.

I hope wall street EATS IT -- they sold off all their yahoo shares this week, and one year from now, yahoo will trade higher than microsoft, just pray that yahoo doesn't lower themselves to accept the crappy offer of worthless microsoft stock

Microsoft's aversion to Openness might keep them away, but then they seem hell bent on possessing Yahoo no matter the cost. In the end, Microsoft very rarely doesn't end up getting what they want when they really fight for it and when (not if) they finally acquire Yahoo I can see this going away fairly quickly. Its only a matter of time. The Microsoft Borg want Yahoo and nothing will stop them. Resistance is futile.

There are a few of their 'sites' or 'apps', whatever you wish to call them, that if I got a better API for I think I could have a lot of fun with. Creating an easy way to pull data in from Flickr for a group's website so that all pictures can be stored and managed there, while allowing the viewing to be done at a group's website would be a god send. Maybe even allow for those picture to be easily dispersed from a group's email address at yahoo, to all group members? Just need to watch out for spammers.

Another example of how the once innovative Yahoo has been reduced to yet another follower. This company is only a former shadow of itself. Sr. management "rats" have long since left this sinking ship. Nowadays, if you work at Yahoo, it means Google didn't want to hire you. Second fiddle, second tier. This press release is nothing more than trying to divert attention away from Yahoo's failed attempt to up the microsoft bid. Another brilliant move by yahoo management... nice.As for the soc-network, yea, been there, done that Yahoo..like 3, 4 years ago..

On the other hand, Microsoft has a history of nasty - yet often legal - ways of destroying competitive companies. My best guess is that Microsoft would also like it if Yahoo! would go down. That way they crush competition from Yahoo! either way. What Yahoo! has to do is making their platform more interesting and more valuable. In this case that can only mean open source. Open source is the way to go for companies who are not at the top. Hereby they also promote themselves on Linux distro's.

Java or JavaScript? JavaScript is already fully open. Sun has recently announced a 100% open Java as well.

I don't know a single person that doesn't use a Yahoo service or program, be it delicio.us, flikr, yui or yslow. I'm a geek, though. YMMV.
