mtgarden: "When you give up trying to excel, you end up with a second rate performance."But what do you try to excel at? Obviously some things would be a wasted effort. Yahoo, for example, would never try to excel at making cars. Now how close is the search biz to Yahoo's expertise? Well, I don't think the search biz is all THAT far from their core business. They are in the biz of providing specialized information (i.e., portals to specialized services), but if you ask me, they could be a nice thorn in Google's side by improving specialized searches. And I don't know, but Google already seems to be moving towards some specialized searches (define: ... etc.). Yahoo should try to kick their butt there. A little competition would keep Google on their toes instead of getting fat and lazy over time.
Yahoo just want to look like an under-dog ("Look, poor little Yahoo"). Worked for Google, now they can even read your mail and put ads ("Let them, they are poor little Google").

"Whether it's realistic or not."Stephen Colbert: "Pussy. As in, 'Don't be a'"How are they just gonna throw in the towel?! Aim high you woosies! You're never going to be #1 if you stop trying.Eh, i guess i'm just channeling my old football coach.
This was bound to of happened at some point, google has diversified so much so quickly, to the extent where they even have there own OS now, I think in the not to distant future we could be looking at a google O/S over a windows or MAC....Now thats some food for thought

Being the biggest in your market is not the end-all be-all of being the best company.
