They're charging more than $99 cents for it currently, which raises the question Yahoo asks in a survay: "Would you consider paying $1.09 for a single, unrestricted MP3 download that would have absolutely no limitations on its use and could be transferred to any portable audio player?"

Ad that is about what you pay... until you have to pay the RIAA's cut too. Apple for example recieves $.07 per song, eough to host it and pay their people I believe. They only make money off of the iPod sales.

@ LilGatorMost scene releases have proper tags with everything you'd want: Artist, Album, Track Name, Year, Genre and some teams add some extra info too ( I'm thinking of PsyCZ right now ). I say most because there are some bad ones too :)Encoding method you want... that isn't here yet. But i think that if more people get broadband maybe the scene will go loss-less *hint hint*Bit rate you want.... well if it's a scene mp3, the bit rate is VBR which is perfect and transparent ;)

$300? For what, a low end receiver? For $300 you can buy some decent vintage gear, but you can't get, buy, or build anything even decent for $300 for even a simple stereo system. If its a home theater system, for $300? I wish you lived close to me, I'd show you how it is supposed to sound. My benchmark? The best benchmark there is for pre-recorded music; live music...

Jessica Simpson hates the IPODOK, not really…. But what would a DRM free music sale mean to Itunes. Clearly with 85% of the digital music market, driving sales of IPODS and Apple’s revenue to new heights. What if DRM becomes irrelevant, would this mean the digital music player market would be blown wide open? Probably, but don’t bet on that happening anytime soon. There is no chance that the music executives, are going to allow this to occur in any meaningful manner. The reality is, if music was available DRM free, the truth is that people would trade music directly, without the further involvement of the record industry. And, that just isn’t part of their plan….

Cd's in America are not ten dollars, like u said that is only for the classics, or maybe the at wall-mart when you go to the stack of Cd's that never sell.Cd's in the Aventura mall in Miami cost anywhere from 20 to 29 dollars depending on the CD, etc.

Actually, in effect we are paying less for DRMed music - $.99 Yahoo is trying to establish the going price for non-DRMed music at $1.99 because it costs more to provided that service (due to increased pirating which is likely)
