p2pnet.net — Yahoo is biting the bullet, virtually admitting its Yahoo Music service is done for, and definitely admitting p2p and file sharing are here to stay. It's offering Jesse Simpson's Right Where You Want Me album at $10, a price that's close to falling within the ballpark of almost acceptable pricing. And it's unpolluted by DRM.

Seems like a somewhat biased summary in the linked article. Yahoo! isn't admitting that its music service is done for, or saying that P2P/file sharing are the best ways to distribute music. Rather, they're understanding that it's a trivial matter to get unrestricted MP3s from purchased CDs, so why bother having all of the purchasable music online encumbered by restrictive DRM? If Yahoo! can get other record labels to buy into this philosophy, that's a Good Thing™ for everyone. One of the main reasons that I haven't purchased much music online is that I can't stand the fact I can't play the music in any MP3 player that I want.(disclosure: I work for Yahoo!, though not in Yahoo! Music)
