ecogeek.org — Companies like Google and IBM are trying to lead the world in cutting-edge, efficient data centers. Not to be outdone, on Tuesday Yahoo announced they're hoping to change to future of data centers as well. The company unveiled plans to build one of the world's most efficient data centers in Lockport, NY and the details do sound pretty exciting.

Lockport is a s**thole. I grew up in Niagara Falls, and I am actually really surprised that Yahoo would build a datacenter anywhere in Niagara county. There is no tech in the area, and both Lockport and Niagara Falls are so broke that they have not fixed the crater-like potholes that cover 90% of the streets in the area for at least 10 years. The old saying certainly stands true here, you can polish a turd, but it is still a turd.

Um... cool.Just as long as they don't ruin the view of the Falls with ads.

One wonders what Tesla would have to say about this.

News Flash:Most datacenters in and around New York, are powered by the Niagara Falls.

That's not entirely true. It depends on where you stand.. On the Canadian side of the border I work for a huge tech company. I hear we are hiring another 200+ employee's. Now if our local internet providers could just keep up with speed and bandwidth restrictions we'd be set.http://www.saveournet.ca

Just how many things can be 'powered by' a given hydro station?
