forums.xbox.com — Apparently anyone under the age of 18 who originally signed up for Xbox Live is STILL considered a child even after they have passed the age of 18 and pay for their own account. There are limitations, you can not view dashboard ads, featured downloads, or use MSN messenger. It has been 2 years now and Microsoft still has not fixed this issue.

i'm sick of this crap because i created my account on DAY ONE of xbox live. i purchased the original xbox on DAY ONE. i purchased the 360, on DAY ONE! when i created my account i was considered a minor and now i'm over 18 and i don't get the full functionality of these new features. do i get to use msn messenger on my 360? no. do i get to see ads that tell me when something new is out on the marketplace? no. now we have this new feature (which might be a little pointless) and i can't use it in full because i created my account when i was 15. how about come up with an update to fix that, huh? don't come out with little things like "friends of friends" or the msn messenger until this is fixed. it's not fair to be paying $50 a year and not get to use this stuff.

I'm not saying this is how they would do it, I have no clue how their data is set up, what kind of system they use for account management, or even how the client side software initializes, and honestly you don't either. No matter what kind of set-up you are using, a good dev team doesn't just throw in mass data updates willy-nilly and hope there are no problems caused by it. They have a responsibility to make sure that their systems and users stay active. I am well aware that calculating age is a simple procedure, but what happens if updating a simple flag by checking a date causes mass updates via triggers to several other tables. That could then cause the load to grow exponentially, and possibly bring the system to a crawl. All I am saying is it may not be as simple as "just updating a field".

It IS Microsoft you know....

The main point is that Microsoft has a bug and needs to fix it. (I was lying on the BBSs 13 years ago when I was getting porn over a 2400 baud modem. I was even running my own BBS with adult content by the time I was 16. I'm old now -- many people here don't even know what a BBS is/was.)

That sounds like a decent occupation, a costumer. Yeah, I think I'll do that.

Way to constructively express your opinions with reliable sources and backing up your answer there, martinaoe2.

Yep, if you're paying $50 a year you should get the same things as anyone else.
