360insider.net — Those aren't my words, but those of a customer service representative. When someones Xbox 360 stopped playing games, he was told to orient the console horizontally, which fixed the problems. Microsoft wont fix his Xbox 360, because apparently it was never designed to play games vertically! Crazy stuff.

this is unacceptable... when you design a product you have to take into consideration that 80% of the time it's NOT going to be used properly...i mean, it blatently invites you to stand it up... how is the average consumer going to know that you're not allowed to play games vertically? read the manual? don't think so..
teamparadoxDec 13, 2005
I call bulls**t on this because it says right in the damn manual you can play verticle and so did J Allard.
loungeactxDec 13, 2005
that's blatantly wrong...because i just got a 360 and there are little rubber "feet" to stand it up vertically. Just like on the underside of the 360 if you wanna use it horizontally. Honestly though...where is the benefit from standing it up vertically?? Doesn't it sit in your entertainment center more nicely if its horizontal? I don't see the point of standing it up vertically...but this article is horribly wrong.

my xbox 360 is vertical, but the damn thing screws up no matter how you have it. Mine scratches the hell out of disks when is horizontal, but freezes constantly when vertical. ITS A LOSE LOSE SITUATION

Best solution, sell your Dreamcast 360 to some sucker on eBay.

the thing has foot pads to stand it up vertically. in the freaking xbox office its standing up vertically. the support guy was talking out his ass.
androidkingDec 14, 2005
i forgot the ring of light reorientates itself when its vertical.

lame article done by stupid Sony fan-boys who cant read a manual and don't have a 360 and only wanna bitch about how it sux if people actually read the manual it say not to move the unit while it's powered on and a disc is inserted. It makes common sense.NO f**kING DIGG cause this is f**kING stupid.Easy fix DONT f**kING MOVE THE SYSTEM WHILE IN PLAY!!!!I'm not a 360 fan-boy cause I have all the systems and plan on buying a PS3/Revolution when they come out.
orchideousDec 9, 2006
To be honest i think ms Released this way to early, thats why the ps3 has retracted in europe and other places until march now. Ventalate your 360 put something underneath it so the underneath can stay cool

I guess its time to eliminate some rumors. The PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 are both playable horizontal or vertically. If you move them either way though, you could scratch your CD or ruin your Xbox 360. What is recommended is that if you do want to use it vertically, then use a fan that does NOT hook into your Xbox, but into an outlet (making sure your Xbox 360 isn't being overworked by another product). When it's all said and done. Users shouldn't parade around the house with their systems, as tempting as it may be. Leave it in one safe, open place, where it cannot be moved.to confirm this, contact Xbox at 1-800-4MY-XBOX or 1-800-345-SONY

Wait, why would Microsoft say that it's not made/designed for vertical use when they put little rubber feet on the right side of the console?
darkshadowxzSep 12, 2007
Oh bulls**t it was never supposed to be verticle. The tell me something, why the Hell are there little rubber feet on the side of the 360. Clearly for standing it up.

The original xbox was never intended to be played vertically.
seanmarvinJan 12, 2009
I digg this guy's response.Absolutely right.

The Xbox 360 is designed to be played in the vertical position but it really does not matter in which position it is played on I have not had any problems with my 360 because i played it in the vertical and horizontal position and it did not affect the Xbox 360s performance in any way.
