joystiq.com — Yes, we heard the rumors and they turned out to be true. At Microsoft's E3 keynote, they finally revealed the new dashboard, complete with 3D slides and Avatars. John Schappert, head of Live services and software, told the audience: "The new look and feel is more fun, more social, and simpler to use."

They look like Miis, but somehow gayer.

It's the Fall Update... but MS skipped the last Spring update and the last Fall update actually hit in December. But I'm guessing they'd want to hit alongside their blockbuster Gears of War 2, so probably November.

I think its great, it looks like a cross between the Playstation user Interface and the iTunes cover flow. Much cleaner and less cluttered than the current user interface. Also I think the new avatars have the potential to be great, I hope they replace all current avatars and are free though!

iTunes sucks.

I'm getting a little sick of the integration of these "social aspects" ,brought forth by "Web 2.0", into EVERYTHING!I feel it is beginning to get too cluttered.A console that strictly plays GAMES, Music, & Movies is all I would want, the rest I have a computer for!

So what does that make Windows Media Player?

Windows Media Player sucks too.I use Amarok.Or Songbird (Mozilla based) if I'm on... windows...

i have an xbox 360 with LIVE and a nintendo Wii. the avatar system on the new dashboard coming to the 360 is not as such copying, but using the idea and modifying the idea of using a 'Mii-like' avatar for each gamertag. it was announced at E3 (2008) that the new dashboard will be arriving on every LIVE users marketplace, aswell as being advertised in newsletters, 'inside xbox' and all around the network surrounding Microsoft and xbox 360. for those who are thinking that this is just a new rip off scheme for people. dont be. ITS FREE. they have announced a few little details about the new dashboard and 1 included is that it will be a FREE update, and will replace the old dashboard memory stored on your HDD, not sure how much GB it will use up, but the likelyhood is that it will be a tiny bit more, with upgraded features, avatars and all that. YOU DONT HAVE TO INSTALL IT - Microsoft, for once, are giving LIVE users full flexibility on a personal option to install the new dashboard or if you want the keep the original blades. but once installed im not sure if you can go back to old one. there will most likely be a preview of it before you download it. Microsoft arent that bad. That should be enough info for plenty of you.NO COMFIRMED RELEASE DATE YET BUT WILL BE ARRIVING IN AUTUMN 2008 ( PROBABLY OCTOBER )
