llamma.com — Many Xbox 360 owners are experiencing game disc scratching while a game is in their Xbox 360. The Llamma team had a couple first hand experiences with some game disc scratches we did a couple intentional test scratchings and have a video to show for it.

I guess I am in the camp that thinks the 360 should be able to handle being lightly set on its side while spinning. Heck, I have shaken my CD players and my original Xbox while the disc was spinning and low and behold, no problems (from that action). Why can't the 360 do the same thing? If my 360 tips over (from vertical to horizontal), I want to know that my disc will be fine.

i thought this was common sense. You cant blame a console for peoples stupidity.

My 360 (like my PS2) will stay in a comfortable, horizontal position. There's just something about a disc spinning in a vertical position that doesn't seem natural to me.

"My Xbox, if I put PGR 3 in sounds like that the whole time if its vertical so I usually have to make it horizontal for PGR but if I put COD in it will overheat while its horizontal so I have to move it again."Let me guess....your xbox is on a thick carpet? (hence why it would only give you problems whilst horizontal)

Wait... so they advertised that the "ring of fire" or whatever the heck they're calling it knows what position the system is in, but you should never do it while the console is running (because why would you have it running with no game in it)? They should have thought of this. A piece of equipment put in the living room should just work. There should not be crashes. The power pack should not have to cool itself. The equipment should be prepared for a good yank from a controller. Heck, what happens if you yank the wrong way and the console tips over?

Thats weird, I posted the same story about 22 hours ago, I did a search and it didn't come up with this story. Maybe the search feature is broken.

The issue with an integrated PSU is one of heat. Considering that these devices usually sit in areas with very little airflow (on a carpet for example), and the graphics and CPU chips generate a lot of heat as well, if they had integrated the PSU, then they would have probably needed louder fans on the thing to keep it from burning itself up. Using a separate brick power supply allowed them to lower the airflow requirements of the main box.

The lame designers made the dvd drive so its metal on disc when this happens instead of disc on something softer. Their is no way to avoid the eventual movment or vibration of the console - be it in a car or house boat, or switching tvs at a lan party where you can't afford to turn of the console. Many if not most people experience this problem because of something other than vertical/horizonal tilt. I myself have had this problem and have never had the console in the veritical position, I was just worried someone... or a frustrated me would use the 360 as a(n) (american) football.Yes, it was the greedy bastards at M$, but I can't help thinking that sony or nitendo would have screwed there customers over similarly, I could be wrong though. I just can't get over M$'s repeated claims that this is not a console defect.

Oh, and whatever you don't throw away your damaged disc, you can most likely get it resurfaced for a faction of what you payed for it in the first place.

Please, email your experiences with the XBox 360 concerning scratches on your game discs to the Dutch TV-program VARA KASSA ( something like Watchdog UK on British BBC TV). They are taking up action and need international data from users who had complaints. email to: xbox@vara.nl . There are people there who can read English. The website is : www.vara.kassa.nl ( this is in Dutch)
