Right, i got that. The 360 DOES have optical audio out standard on the console. It comes in the box, no extra purchase needed.

HDMI is just digital audio out (coax style, a copper equivalent of optical) and DVI mashed into one cable. Now I don't have the appropriate setup to test (though I do have an HDMI Premium) but you're telling me that the digital audio out over HDMI isn't identical to the digital audio out through the optical port I'm using now? That seems a little too unlikely for me to believe you without having seen it myself.
