joystiq.com — For those hoping that the expected $50 Xbox 360 price cut would bring the Core model down to the Wii-diculously great price of $250, Joystiq has some bad news. According to a source at Best Buy who sent Joystiq these images, the Xbox 360 Core model is dead and remaining stocks are all that's left of the system.

It could also mean the discontinuation of this particular core system (to make room for new 65nm versions and/or one with a memory card/game pack-in). Personally, I think 3 SKUs are at least 1 too many. I also think Microsoft would love to include an HD in every box. This opens the door for them to sell movies and TV shows, and that business seems to be doing very well for them.I guess it comes down to this: Does Microsoft need a $250 box to compete with the Wii?

The Core is what is holding the 360 back. Developers have to work around the fact that some 360s don't have hard drives. No hard drive is almost as bad as using DVDs for HD games.

Why the Wii doesn't have a hard drive either.

Developers can do whatever they want as long as they inform the consumer of the system requirements, like, Hard Drive Required. How many cores do you think are out there that didn't eventually buy the hard drive any way?

No one bought the core system. It was truly a tard box.

Most of us don't care about the wirless. I don't know why people keep factoring that into the price.
