my.1up.com — I was speaking to a Microsoft rep in my store the other day, when he let this little tidbit slip out:"The HD drive is expected to sell at 500 dollars."... uhh, err, the hell? Wasn't the add-on drive supposed to go for less? I mean, like half as much? The sentence caught me unawares, so I prodded.

Yeah, this is obviously false. It's already confirmed to be the cheapest HD-DVD player for owners of a 360, not to mention, the 360 already does most of the work, so there is no reason for it to cost this much. Plus that would make the PS3 look too good, and MS won't allow that just like that. They'd be digging their own grave. So, totally inaccurate title.

Say what you will about the decision to include an HD player in or out and how that spreads out into consumer choice, it all boils down to consumer need. Get the console (PS3, 360, Wii) and fits your needs. You don't HAVE to get anything. But if we're talking about the viability of how Sony and MS went about distributing their HD players, personally, from a business stand point, I think Sony made a better decision, and if this HD player war, is in fact a war, it would seem the better strategem. More Blu-ray players will be sold this way, whether you agree with the method or not. Including the BR was a smart move, it will kick start the HD movement through mainstream. I know I know, you could care less about it, many do here. But there will come a point in time where you end up getting an HD television. Then you'll realize the difference. And when you do, Sony's console might suddenly become shockingly tempting. Or, if it's more your bag, MS's 360 HD add on. I don't know why so many are so up in arms about advances in technology, most likely because most keep thinking in the now, but rest assured if there's one thing that is absolutely sure about these high price tags, they'll go down over time. So I guess the real question is, can you wait till the price matches what you'll pay?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. It's probably about the Xbox 360 with a HD-DVD drive integrated in (that's a logical pricepoint). The add-on would then probably be $100-$200 anyway.Hm. Plus it's just a rep...he doesn't necessarily know.

......360 fanboys, you're forgetting something. When games were coming out on carts, they were 7~80 dollars per game, not adjusted for inflation.Sure, the console wasn't THAT expensive, but each and every single game gave you a huge hit.I don't know, but really, if a real estate agent only got you a house bigger, more modern, clean, more rooms, and with a Jacuzzi, compared to what you had in mind, for only a bit more money, are you going to swear at the real estate agent? No, you should be thankful for him/her for getting you that giant house for that cheap!Whether you reccommend the agent, or even take the house should be your choice, but at least stop whinging at the price the consoles SHOULD be based on YOUR unimportant standards.

now where does it say we have to buy this?we have a choice.

even if a game for 360 is like 10GB they could put it on 2 discs. like they did for GCN and nobody complained.funny how when sony put games on 6 cd roms for the PS1 nobody cared, but now that space isn't a concern for sony game anyone else who might need a second disc is dead them. what morons.Do you really think if a game like Oblivion doesn't even take half a disc that there are going to be anymore then 2 or 3 games in the future that need more then 1 disc? its not a big deal at all.

Why would MS release a 100$ HDDVD drive? It's not going to be sold as much as the 360.Because of that MS can't afford loose money on that product just to have the 360 play movies. In addition to that, why would anyone buy it? The 360 doesn't have HDMI. It can't even go above 720p.

I my self am a Sony Fan boy...just not the immature blinded type that come across and give us a bad name. I respect Microsoft and think the HD-DVD add-on is great and yes it will be between $100-$200 dollars, but like many have stated it will not be forced to you. Although HD is the near future, right now not really on the average consumer's mind. 1-2 years from now it will be.Last year was the beginning of next-gen gaming and this year is the deadline to get into it. Sony has made some interesting moves, not really the best for "now", but in the near future it will stand out a bit..not so much but I promise once the Wii and PS3 are released...the bitching...will...END...which I can't wait. Now to the subject. Blue-Ray....lots of space...but like many have stated, all that space does in a way seem useless unless there are a lot of pretty cut scenes..which well hey..is NOT a bad idea. Maybe one day there will be a game with developers dedicated and large enough to produce a huge epic game(not filling the whole disc with graphics of course). I for one will buy the PS3 upon release(risky i know, sorry first generation Xbox 360's three lights of death). The way I look at it, I'm a gamer yet love different types of media, which the PS3 delivers fully at. Xbox 360 is probably the best console for like FPS's that are very popular in America such as CS, Half-Life, but most of all Halo and soon to be maybe champ over that Gears of War. I can see myself buying a 360 in the future after wards. For just pure fun gaming, get a damn Wii...seriously, it owns in just pure fun.Total media platform get the PS3, hardcore gaming get the 360, want some good ol' fashioned fun ...get the Wii. What I'm waiting on is Killzone(who knows what it looks like though), and come on peeps you all have to respect kuturagi for thinking outside of the box. I know I'm gonna get negative feed back, but I'm also not stating that the 360 sucks at media, the PS3 sucks at hardcore gaming, and the Wii sucks at hardcore/media, but really in a way that's how they are now. I think Midway was right saying it will be a draw.

Bottom line: People who don't game buy standalone hardware. People who own 360 have a choice between HDDVD addon (which WILL be cheaper than standalone) or standalone player. People who wait for PS3 and pay for Blu-Ray (which they may or may not watch movies and if they do HOPE that Blu-Ray isn't a flop).http://www.abibakarblog.com/http://rumahabi.info/
