xboxmediacenter.com— Just been announced, Team XBMC wants Linux developers to help them with the porting of the award winning XBMC to the Linux platform

Honestly I think XBMC should remain to be a console based application.on another note, what are they going to name it? It sure isn't going to be called Xbox Media Center
when i first read the title, i thought they meant porting it to the ps3 linux. not THAT would be one hell of a killer app exclusive for sony to steal!BUT... of course sony isnt that smart. without GPU access, it wouldnt make much sense XBMC would be pretty crippled, but it would have been a great idea if they could find a way.*file this under: yet another reason to enable GPU access in ps3 linux.
Not sure how I missed this, but here's another 'GOOD LUCK' and 'CAN'T WAIT' post. Sure devs are reading this. I consider my Xbox dying and now use it for emulators mainly. I don't want it to explode. Myth is great. Beats Tivo. Though as a MEDIA center, its interface is not up to XBMC. It sucks at music and videos. (I like how Myth can display on my LCD, though XBMC can too!). Amarok with a full screen plugin is music king, at the moment...Anyways, I'd love to run Mythbackend and my Amarok DB, with XBMC as the interface. Can't wait to donate to this project.
@pike2k:have you ever considered 'asking' for formal permission to port it to the ps3 directly; porting it as a downloadable application for the ps3 native OS? granted they may see it as direct opposition to their XMB. that and theres always the fear that someone may 'sneak' in some exploitable code, [oh yeah, and theres that issue with the name... cant see sony appreciating a program called "xbox..."-anything on their flagship machine. maybe you can change it to mean xross bar media center or something, who knows?] so far sony seems pretty open to alternative apps on the ps3. maybe they could find a way to support xbmc as a third boot option with limited/ controlled gpu access.the problem with HTPCs is that they look and act like regular PCs. thats part of the beauty of xbmc. no one wants a huge HTPC taking up space in the entertainment center. i would buy a mac-mini or an apple tv box just for xbmc, but power vs. dollars? i would prefer it on the ps3.

omg I got pwnt...anyways, a Linux port would be great, you can build up a low power hardware system these days that run in 30-40 watts.
